Teen Death and Injuries after Pace Bus Crash

The suburb of Dolton saw tragedy Friday night after a stolen car struck a Pace bus. Police of the Dolton area responded to the scene around 10:30 p.m. the night of the crash, and according to police, the crash took place at Sibley Boulevard and Wentworth Ave.

Police say that a 2005 Chevrolet Aveo was heading east on Sibley when the driver of the vehicle crossed into the opposite lane of traffic. Reports say that the vehicle had lost control, and shortly after crossing into the opposite lane it crashed into the Pace bus.

The vehicle was reportedly stolen, and the crash was triggered after an attempted flee from a routine traffic stop on 6th Ave. Reports do not show whether or not the pursuit from police continued up until the crash, or if it stopped earlier.

Jamal Williams, a 15 year-old boy sat in the passenger seat of the stolen vehicle, and was taken to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, where he was pronounced dead an hour later. An autopsy showed that Williams died from injuries pertaining to the crash, and the medical examiner’s office ruled his death an accident.

The driver of the stolen vehicle is reportedly in stable condition and is in police custody. The passenger in the rear of the vehicle was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and is reportedly in serious condition. Another passenger in the rear of the vehicle attempted to flee the scene of the crash, but was found later by police who brought him to Ingalls Memorial Hospital to be treated for non – life threatening injuries.

The woman driving the Pace bus, 59 years – old, was taken to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in serious condition. While a tragic accident like this can bring stress to many people involved, the immediate investigation by a third party is necessary.
