A young female attorney who was run over by a construction van in the near West Loop has agreed to settle her lawsuit for $7.2 million. On the morning of April 5, 2013, the plaintiff, then 27-years-old, was walking to work when she was struck by a Sprinter van as it made a left-hand turn off of Des Plaines Avenue onto Washington Street. The van struck plaintiff, knocked her to the ground, and then proceeded to run over her before coming to a stop with her still underneath the van.
Among many injuries, plaintiff suffered significant injuries to her pelvis, low back and left hip. Over the course of her treatment, she underwent a lumbar fusion, left hip surgery and extensive therapy for a pelvic floor myofascial pain disorder.
In 2017, plaintiff’s condition deteriorated to the point where she had significant pain with sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time. As a result, plaintiff, now an associate attorney, was recommended to limit herself to part-time employment. Plaintiff is hopeful that she can return to work, albeit part-time, says her attorney John Nisivaco. “My client is determined to continue moving forward, both in her personal life as a wife and mother and in her professional life as an attorney” Nisivaco said.
